What is Model United Nations (MUN)?

Model United Nations (MUN) is a smaller version of the United Nations where people who are school age represent countries and debate international issues trying to come to a solution that helps fix the problems of our world. Whether that be a fictional issue or a real issue happening right now.

What do participants do at MUN conferences?

Participants research a country's stance on assigned topics, draft resolutions, engage in debates, negotiate with other delegates, and work towards consensus.

Do I need prior experience/knowledge to join MUN?

No prior experience is needed. MUN welcomes beginners and offers many resorces to help participants learn the rules and procedures. All information can be found within the files section on our PHSMUN teams.

What skills can students gain from participating in MUN?

Students develop research, public speaking, negotiation, critical thinking, and teamwork skills. They also gain knowledge about global affairs and diplomacy.

How can I prepare for an MUN conference?

Research your assigned country's policies and positions on relevant issues. Practice public speaking and debate skills. Familiarize yourself with the rules of procedure and format of MUN conferences. But remember it can vairy from school to school.

What are the benefits of participating in MUN?

Participating in MUN helps people develop a deeper understanding of global issues, improve their communication and leadership skills, build confidence, and make lasting friendships with students from around the countrty and sometimes beyond that.
