CRISIS Briefing Paper
CRISIS COMMITTEE
INITIAL BRIEFING
Topic:
30th of September, 2026. The United States of America is in turmoil. Economic mismanagement under the Trump administration; an ill-advised, costly and drawn-out war on Iran; and the gradual erosion of democratic institutions and rights have all contributed to a growing sense of instability within the country. Outside its borders, the world still looks to the USA as a global superpower – but internally, the country teeters on the edge of collapse.
In the halls of government, rival visions for the American future clash as federal institutions, partisan leaders, and international powers pursue their own agendas and interests. Delegates will assume these roles and confront the challenges of governing the USA in a dynamic, evolving scenario. Every decision could determine whether the USA endures as a superpower, or collapses into internal ruin.
Notes on Crisis debate:
The Crisis Committee is very different to a regular MUN debate. Delegates will have to adapt skillfully to the challenges facing them with minimal warning or preparation, and will need to cope with flexible procedures, advanced terminology, and a more complex flow of debate. All delegates will be expected to have extensive experience and be prepared to speak and contribute to debate.
